In conjunction with the City of Vancouver street celebration Viva Vancouver, with support of the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, we are excited to be exploring Granville Street this summer with Newcomer youth from Immigrant Services Society.
During this series of walks, our focus is on heritage buildings, historic and contemporary street culture, and over 100 years of Granville Street as a critical transit hub for the city. As usual, in Walking Home Projects, we continue to explore developments in public and private spaces, street activities, mapping, all with consideration for youth access to resources and community.
On Granville Street, our guest experts will share their knowledge with us about street furniture, urban planning, architecture, and provide us with amazing visits inside landmark buildings, which have contributed to the community for decades.
This project opens our series of Community Connections as part of our current work entitled Artists Walking Home, a co-production with 221A Artist Run Centre.
Please look under Walk Archives on the Artists Walking Home website for documentation of The Granville Street series, including maps, research essays, and photos.
